Mahavir Janma Kalyanak
Wednesday 17th April 2019
2618 years ago, the last Tirthankar of our current cycle, Mahavir Bhagwan, was born. His teachings have been instrumental in propagating the knowledge of Jainism in our time and forthcoming times to come. This day also holds special relevance for us as it was also on this day in 1934 that Pujya Gurudev’s parivartan took place. The cultural team has planned an event prior on the preceding Sunday, as follows.
Sunday 14th April
08.15 – 09:15: Pujya Gurudev’s CD Pravachan
09.15 – 10.30: Jinendra Maha-Abhishek (boys over 8 years most welcome) & Mahavir Janma Kalyanak Pujan
10.30 – 11.30: Gyaan Goshti – Religious discussion (details below)
Gyaan Goshti Subject: Mahavir Bhagwan se Pujya Gurudev tak
You are invited to prepare a short passage exploring the life one religious personality, from the time of Mahavir bhagwan, through to Pujya Gurudev. You can pick from one of the following personalities:
1. Mahavir Swami
2. Gautam Gandhar
3. Jambu Swami
4. Kundkund Acharya
5. Amrutchandra Acharya
6. Shree Banarasidas Ji
7. Pandit Todarmal Ji
8. Shrimad Rajchandraji
9. Bahenshree Ben
10. Pujya Gurudev Shree
Your speech, should aim to provide information relating to some/all of the following (where applicable):
1. Place and date of birth and death
2. Motivation/inclination towards Jainism
3. Inspiring incidents from their life
4. Contribution towards Jainism
5. Key teachings and how we can apply them
Obviously, any one of these personalities could easily take up a full hour of speech, but we want to find out a little about all of them, so the speeches should be kept to no more than 4 or 5 minutes. You can prepare the speech in any language you are comfortable with.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event, but if you would specifically like to be a participant in the discussions as per above, please put your name forward by replying to this email. Please advise your choice of personality in the email. Note ALL ages are welcome to take part.
